Dr. Adam Olaitan ABDULKAREEM is a Lecturer I in the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin. He earned his doctoral degree in 2023 from the prestigious CSIR- Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India, where he worked on the role of estrogen metabolism in pulmonary hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. He specializes in Animal Physiology, and his major research interest is in cardiometabolic disorders, including cardiac hypertrophy, pulmonary hypertension, diabetes, and cardiometabolic complications of malaria.
His scientific skills include Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, spectrophotometry, RT-PCR, histopathology, lipid metabolism, cell culture, pulmonary artery isolation, vasoreactivity, and animal handling. Recently, he has extended his research activity to the role of oestrogen in cardiometabolic diseases, exploiting the potential therapeutic efficacy of phytoestrogens in diabetes and its associated cardiovascular diseases. He aims to discover novel therapeutic targets for the better treatment of cardiometabolic diseases.
Dr. Adam Olaitan Abdulkareem is a member of the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NISEB) and the Academic and Grant Writers Enclave Society (AGES).
Besides academic and research activities, he has served as an academic adviser for Zoology students at different levels. He is currently the academic (2024/2025) adviser for 200 Level students.
